Recently some nasty bugs have been reported which I found critical enough to not wait for the next major release to fix them.
First of all the scramble function did not work correctly – this is also a bit due to the fact that this function has still a very limited use the way it is implemented. I plan to add additional options like bit error rate or similar in one of the next releases.
The other problem fixed is that deleting functions does not transport the state in the kernel driver directly (you need to wait for the next update of the parameters e.g. when updating a setting of another function).
As usual you can find the new bugfix release in the download section.

Have fun….

First of all thanks a lot for all the feedback I got for the beta versions. I did some cleanup and fixed the issues which have been introduced with the save-file and script options of RC4 (there might be still some trouble with the scripting features so please let me know if you have this successfully tested in a more complicated script set-up – I would be especially interessted if someone has setups with (scripted) changing simulation parameters over a longer test periods). Unfortunately the documentation still needs some rewrite. So until I find some time to fix it this may be an additional usability test . Obviously feedback and suggestions are always highly appreciated.

P.S. for a full list of features please have a look in the release-notes or in the announcements of the older release candidates.

I included this option mainly to allow scripting – maybe I will also add a non-gui version later if using WANulator from scripts becomes more popular .

As mentioned some time ago I was looking for a better solution to build the WANulator live CDs. SLAX WANulator was originally based on is unfortunately not maintained very well. Thus I was not able to update especially for support of new HW in the kernel regulary. After a few experiences with Puppy Linux I eventually used ubuntu-mini-remix in combination with UCK scripts. Unfortunately the download size doubled – which I hope to be able to fix when I find time to strip down the image a bit more.
I found the guide provided by Fabrizio quite usefull.

I was never too happy with the WANulator SW architecture. Many ideas and features I hesitated implementing because of that. So eventually I decided to rewrite most of the code (I guess the message is that it may take a while for the next release but its going to be a major step ). I also consider the Linux distribution used for WANulator beeing part of the facelift. The main reason is that upgrading to new versions of Slax Linux was always an extremely time-consuming task – especially as many packages were not well maintained. The best candidate as a replacement so far is puppy linux - especially for its flexibility and convenient install scripts for various setups and customizations. If you are intrested you can download a (pretty much untested) sneak preview which is based on puppy linux and the latest WANulator (still baesd on the old architecture). If you find problems and issues with the puppy version please drop me a line.
